Earth Charter
The Earth Charter is an ethical charter and even today, 26 years after its international launch at the Peace Palace, it remains relevant. In this time of armed conflicts, climate change, and biodiversity loss, it is important not to let the voice of peace, connection, and our interdependence with all Life on Earth fall silent, but rather to strengthen it.
In 2025, we celebrated 25 years of the Earth Charter and called on everyone to protect life on Earth and be good ancestors. Together with Earth Charter International, we organized a three-day event in the Netherlands. A large group of Earth Charter connections, new interested people, and especially young people got involved. It received great publicity, including this inspiring film, so that we can move into the next 25 years with renewed energy.
Earth Charter Netherlands Sub-Society brings people together under the motto ‘Turning Awareness into Action’. We organize seasonal gatherings and the annual celebration of International Earth Day. Everyone with interest is warmly welcome, especially young people. Financial contributions to organizing the annual Earth Charter Day are welcome, so we can make the gatherings as accessible as possible.
Planetary Well-being, Regeneration, Ethics and Entrepreneurship, and Education for Sustainability are themes that receive attention, with the Earth Charter as the foundation for a living Earth Community. It’s about healing what has been broken, honoring interdependence, and acting with the bigger picture and future generations in mind. The Earth itself shows us how.
Organizations that join the Earth Charter Fellowship have in common that they are inspired by the Earth Charter as a source.
