Iona Vrijgoed (free estate)

Iona Vrijgoed frees up real estate by taking homes and commercial properties off the market for an indefinite period.

Iona Vrijgoed frees up real estate by taking homes and commercial properties off the market for an indefinite period.

In doing so, we connect the (biography of) inspired users, the intentions of the donors, and local communities, creating vibrant spaces. Residents and/or entrepreneurs use and take care of the properties freely. The place serves them to fully develop (their ideal).

House in Wageningen: part of Iona Vrijgoed

The Earth is our home. As humans, we are temporarily welcome here to live and work with it. An important part of this home is a roof over our heads – a safe and free place to live and work. In a free place, there’s room for people to grow, create, and think and act independently. So a free place contributes to a free person.

Which places are a good fit for Iona Vrijgoed?

  • Intention: the liveliness of a place comes from the dream that a donor has. Iona Vrijgoed follows the donor’s intention as closely as possible.
  • Unburdened: a place is only free if it is unburdened, financially but also from other rights that may lie on it, such as easements, chain clauses, etc. If the place is very special but still encumbered, it will be discussed with Iona Vrijgoed to see if the place can still be included.
  • Uniqueness: a place has a character due to its location or layout. The building can stand out because it differs from its surroundings, or it can reflect all elements of a specific era in that setting.
  • Inspired: the user of the free place develops social activities there that benefit people, animals, and spirit. The user provides inspiration for others, valuable creativity, and coexistence.
  • Cared for: the guardian of the place gets the freedom and responsibility to take care of the place and build it up.
